Nancy Menashe
Artist Statement
Taking the mundane in life and turning it into something
spiritual and extraordinary has been a driving force. Through
gestural drawings and brush strokes with intensity and conviction
is what I have been developing in my work.
The depth of color and ruggedness found in landscapes
and seascapes are the inspirations of my paintings. The
eye moves from sky to land to sea with the shifting of color,
line and form. The colors blend together weaving a tapestry
of reality and imagination.
Many of my ideas come from the Jersey shore to the mountainous
terrain and valleys found in Israel.
When I see a path cutting through a field or trees making
there gestural shape on a mountain I feel the emotion that
can be found in nature and recreate it in painting .
My goal as an artist is to seek out gestural lines and
shapes from nature that create both harmony and tension.
I capture the essence of form and keep its spontaneity and
express it through the physical world of line, shape and
color.
