Diane Carbone

Artist Statement

My artwork is a reflection of my life experiences and my identity as a woman. The pieces in this series depict the range of human emotions and the frailty of the human spirit. When I paint I attempt to set an emotional mood with my art. I try to illuminate the experience of loneliness, lust, temptation, isolation, sadness, and sensuality. I illustrate the human experience through the feminine.

I try to utilize color to suggest a mood in my paintings and pastel work. I like to use colors that reflect sensuality, nature, and sadness. My subjects are often seen in the calm before the storm, moments of quiet reflection before action.

As always I invite the viewer to imagine the story that revolves around my figures, sometimes I explore the issue of control, and choosing to let go control over yourself or to be the dominant one in control. My art has often held personal issues but I believe that these feelings are universal to the collective unconscious.
